The population of Haywood County is estimated to be 63,677 as of Summer 2025. Waynesville is the largest town in Haywood County and the largest in Western North Carolina west of <a title=\"Asheville, North Carolina\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Asheville,_North_Carolina\">Asheville<\/a>. Waynesville is located about 30 miles (48\u00a0km) southwest of Asheville between the <a title=\"Great Smoky Mountains\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Smoky_Mountains\">Great Smoky<\/a> and <a title=\"Blue Ridge Mountains\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blue_Ridge_Mountains\">Blue Ridge<\/a> mountains.<\/p>\n<p>According to the US <a title=\"Census\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Census\">census<\/a>, the town had a total <a title=\"Population\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Population\">population<\/a> of 10,923, as of 2019. Waynesville is located just outside the <a title=\"Pisgah National Forest\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pisgah_National_Forest\">Pisgah National Forest<\/a> and is close to the <a title=\"Great Smoky Mountains National Park\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Smoky_Mountains_National_Park\">Great Smoky Mountains National Park<\/a> and the <a title=\"Blue Ridge Parkway\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blue_Ridge_Parkway\">Blue Ridge Parkway<\/a>. Waynesville and Haywood County are part of the four-county Asheville <a title=\"Asheville metropolitan area\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Asheville_metropolitan_area\">Metropolitan Statistical Area<\/a>, currently the 5th largest metropolitan area in <a title=\"North Carolina\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/North_Carolina\">North Carolina<\/a>.
